Frequently Asked Questions
Nutrition information is everywhere, why should I see a Registered Dietitian?
There is so much nutrition information out there, it appears as though everyone is a nutrition expert. Registered Dietitians are specifically trained to interpret nutrition and health research and science to provide you with evidence based information. This means we look at both quality and quantity of studies on a specific nutrition topic and base our nutrition recommendations on whether or not the information we find in these studies is ‘strong’ enough to base our recommendation on. In other words, we can help you cut through the clutter of confusing nutrition advice. Registered Dietitians also believe there is not a ‘one size fits all’ model to health, we are trained on how to counsel individuals for their specific health needs. I have completed both my Bachelor and Masters of Science in nutrition and dietetics in which I underwent a specially designed nutrition curriculum program in addition to completing an extensive supervised training program post graduation. As a Registered Dietitian I have passed a national credentialing exam, as well as state licensure to practice Medical Nutrition Therapy.
Do you offer weight loss services?
Weight loss counseling is not offered through my practice. As a non-diet, weight inclusive, and Health At Every Size aligned dietitian, weight loss services do not align with my nutrition values. Many clients come to me with the desire to change their body size, and I welcome the discussion around weight loss and would like to help unpack the reasons in why you may desire weight loss. Working towards transitioning from poor body image to feeling more neutral or even positive about your body is inclusive in the work we will do together. Seeking intentional weight loss through dieting and weight cycling is most often associated with poor health outcomes, therefore we will work towards health promoting behaviors and goals regardless of your body size.
Do you accept insurance?
I accept the following insurances:
Regence Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oregon
Pacific Source
United Healthcare
Cigna
Moda
I am not in-network with other insurance plans in Oregon or Washington. I can, however, bill as an out-of-network provider if you have out-of-network nutrition benefits or provide you with a superbill that you may submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement. Please note that I am not able to bill Medicare for services.
Please be aware that even if I am in-network with your insurance, each plan is different and coverage for nutrition services is not guaranteed.
Do accept private pay?
I do! My current rates for nutrition counseling sessions paid out of pocket are $206 for a 75 minute initial session, and $165 for 60 minute follow up sessions.
Do you offer sliding scale?
At this time I do not offer sliding scale or payment plans.
How are nutrition counseling visits conducted?
All discovery calls and group nutrition classes are conducted via the Telehealth platform Healthie. I offer Telehealth appointments 5 days a week, and in person visits on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Prior to our initial visit, you must fill out new patient forms including HIPPA Notice of Privacy Form, Financial Agreement Form, Cancellation Policy Form, Medical Release Form, Nutrition Counseling Referral Form, and Testimonial Waiver Form.
